We are truly blessed in many areas! We live just inside the eastern foothills of the Black Hills near Rapid City, South Dakota. We are within an hour and a half of Badlands National Park, Devils Tower National Monument, Wind Cave National Park, Mount Rushmore National Monument, Jewel Cave National Monument, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Custer State Park.
We have three children and eleven grand children. Our oldest, Susette (37), has four daughters: Kiera (16), Shanna (10), Precious (9), and Hope (5). Our older son, Brian (32), has three children: Holly (5), Hannah (4), and Henry (8 mo.). Our youngest son, Shawn (27), has four daughters: Jazmine (6), Emaya (4), Ciera (2), and Charlise (1). Our newest, Henry, was born last September. Finally, a grandson! Brian and family live in Bismarck, North Dakota. The rest of our clan lives in Rapid City.
I went back in Federal service about four years ago after working in civilian jobs since I retired from the Air Force in 1996. I’m currently a Purchasing Agent for the U. S. Forest Service working in the headquarters of Black Hills National Forest. Our office is located on the edge of Custer, South Dakota in the heart of the Black Hills.
In December 2006, Gloria suffered essentially a heart attack. They didn’t think she was going to make it, but I had called our church for prayer immediately. They were able to heavily sedate her after over thirty paddle shocks. It was three days before Gloria was stabilized enough to bring her out of sedation, and then a pacemaker/defibrillator was inserted. She spent nine days in the hospital. We praise God for everything. The doctors could not understand how she came through this without any damage. We owe all to Jesus! Without Him, we would not be where we are and Gloria wouldn’t be here!
